Welcome to the 1890 Freeman House
Step back in time as you settle into our spacious home located on Postoffice Street within the heart of the East End Historic District. Built in 1890 by prominent sea merchant David Freeman (1840-1893), this historic six-bedroom home survived the Great Storm of 1900. Filled with antiques and Galveston history, it is ideal for weekend adventures, romantic couples getaways, extended family gatherings, corporate stays, or special events.
You will find our location ideal for exploring all the best things Galveston has to offer. Stroll through our charming neighborhood of Victorian homes, nearby historic mansions, or the famous Strand District with its art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. Take in one of the wonderful performances at the historic 1894 Grand Opera House, sign up for one of the island’s famous Ghost Tours, or visit during the popular Dickens on The Strand Festival, Mardi Gras Celebration, or Lone Star Rally. Our home is located only a mile from the Seawall, Pleasure Pier, sunny beaches, and incredible sunrises over the ocean. We are also less than a mile from Pier 21 on the bay side with its harbor tours, fish markets, the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa, and cruise ship terminals. We’ve prepared a list of our favorite things to do around Galveston, and will be happy to assist you in planning your vacation or event.
We know you will love staying at The 1890 Freeman House as you explore this unique island on the Gulf of Mexico. This beautiful home is available for rent on per room or full home basis (by request). You will love our antique-filled bedrooms, luxurious linens, large screen TVs, and the privacy of your own bathroom. The new, custom kitchen provides everything you need to prepare a holiday meal or an amazing dinner with fresh seafood from one of our local fish markets. Our common living areas are comfortable places to relax in the evenings, enjoying friends, or perhaps making new ones. When you come home at the end of your day, relax with a glass of wine in the parlor. Peruse some of the books from our small library to learn more about Galveston and its fascinating history. Or perhaps spend some time searching for the playful little ghost who occasionally enjoys interacting with some of the special guests who have stayed in this historic home.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
